Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears defense looks like defense when Love Smith was at the helm.

The Chicago Bears defense stepped up scoring two defensive touchdowns to take at 14-0 lead over the Carolina Panthers.  There was a tip drill pass off of a Cam Newton’s pass that fell into Eddie Jacksons hand for a pick six.  Eddie Jackson had two touchdowns, one off of a fumble and another off of an Interception, (something that had not been done before (70 plus yards), when Cam Newton tried to squeeze the ball into his receiver, 76 yard interception return for Jackson.  Roy Robertson-Harrison looked to be injured on the Bears kickoff after the touchdown.

Meanwhile –Green Bay was tied with New Orleans 7-7 without Aaron Rodgers.

Buffalo lead Bucs 10-6.

Chicago Bears defense looked good, although there was no Gregg Olson for the Carolina Panthers.  Chicago’s offense had not done much.  Carolina was determined to stick with the run, trying to run straight at the heart of the Chicago defense.  Newton used his legs to move the ball during the second quarter.  Newton had run or thrown for all 12 Panther touchdowns this season.  Carolina was in the red zone with 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter however,  they could not reach pay dirt and had to settle for a  field goal with 3:23 left in the first half.  Panthers got on the board, Bears 14- Panthers 3. Immediately after the kickoff to the Bears Trubisky found Cohen for a 70 yard long pass play, this would be one of the only highlights from the offense.  Howard rushed the ball to the 1 yard line after the long pass with the two minute warning looming.  2nd and goal Howard got stuffed by Peppers the former Bear to make it 3rd and goal.  Trubisky faked a handoff and ran when he dove for the TD but his right knee came down at the one half yard line.  4th and goal, Chicago decided to  kick the field goal.  Barth kicked the easy 19 yard attempt.  Chicago 17-3 with 1:10 left in the half.  Panthers ran out of time and the 1st half ended. Bears ended the half with 4 sacks.  Stats were deceiving as Carolina controlled the clock 22 minutes to 7.

Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears 2nd Half

Opening drive for the Bears ended with a 3 and out.  Carolina’s first possession of the 2nd half, ended with a turnover on downs.

The third quarter ended with no change in the score as both teams failed to put any points on the board.

In the fourth quarter Newton faced pressure with little over 7 minutes left and threw an interception that was picked off by Danny Trevathan.  Trubisky 4 for 7 so far on the day.

Meanwhile the Bucs were tied with Buffalo 20-20.

The Bears ran only 12  plays in the quarter and had only 15 yards of offense.  Newton, being pressured all day was sacked by Pernell McPhee for a loss.  Akiem Hicks appeared to be injured on the play but was able to walk off the field without any assistance.

Newton 9 rushes for 50 yards, 21-34 211 yards two interceptions.

The  Chicago Bears were able to gain only 138 yards of offense but had no turnovers.  There were only 4 first downs for the Chicago Bears through the game until the 2:30 mark when they picked up their 5th first down.  Eddie Jackson was all the offense the Bears needed to win the game even though he plays defense.  Trubisky did not have a stellar game but he did something that his predecessor failed to do.  He was able to not turn the ball over.  I believe the more experience the rookie gets the better the Bears will be.  The future at quarterback for the Bears may be looking good!!  With no time outs available for the Carolina Panthers  the Chicago Bears were able to secure their second win of back to back wins, which they have not been able to do in almost two years.  The Bears have already matched last years win total.  Trubisky only attempted 8 passes, good win by the Bears but the offense is going to have to step up.
